Tarot and the Fantasy of Egypt

Sunday Afternoon Public Programs
March 18, 2:00 PM  •  Presented by Michael S. Howard

Ancient Egypt was an object of fascination in Western Europe even before the first known record of the tarot in 1440, but it wasn’t until 1781 that anyone declared it to be originally Egyptian. The result was a flowering of the “Egyptian” tarot, an unveiling as it were of its secrets, assisted by images based on actual finds in Egypt. Mr. Howard will give visual examples and then turn to the tarot before 1781 for further allusions to Egypt, not because the tarot originated there, but to satisfy those fascinated by that civilization. Special attention will be given to the goddess Isis. Continue reading

Getting “Current” with Electro-Medicine

Sunday Afternoon Public Programs
January 14, 2:00 PM  •  Presented by Steve Herrington

The electrical qualities of our human bodies are in some ways more significant than the biochemical factors affecting our health — after nearly a century of suppression the powerful technologies of electro-medicine are now reemerging into public awareness! Electrons are constantly flowing throughout our bodies — and not just through the nervous system, but through our veins, arteries, connective tissues and even our bones. Electro-medicine works through this innate bio-electrical system and there’s a considerable variety of well-established but little known technologies that can help to bring about seemingly miraculous healing. Séance of Sound: A Brief History of Theosophy in American Music

Sunday Afternoon Public Programs
November 19, 2:00 PM  •  Presented by Matt Marble, Ph.D.

In tracing the esoteric history of American music, Theosophy is a pervasive influence. Its influence on American music began around the turn of the 19th century, almost immediately after The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875. Its influence continued into the 1970s, if not beyond. Cosmic Songs — The Music of Nature Spirits and Devas (Angels)

Olympian Hermes: God of Fortune, Travel, and Knowledge

Sunday Afternoon Public Programs
April 30, 3:00 PM  •  Presented by Patricia Fulbright

Ancient Greeks honored Hermes as “the friendliest of gods to men and most generous giver.” He sometimes offers us good fortune with unexpected rewards and recognition: a bonus or promotion at work, first prize in a game, good luck in love matters. Hermes conveys messages from the gods to humans and guides travelers, particularly those souls on their journey from earth to the realms of Hades. Continue reading
